遠ヶ森　久谷ふれあい林からのバリエーション登山（愛媛県松山市・愛媛県伊予郡砥部町）標高740m

第76回全国植樹祭愛媛県大会が終了したので、そろそろいいかな？ということで遠ヶ森に登ってきました。

国道33号線から国道440号線に入ると、久谷ふれあい林への入口があります。
まずは林道大久保線を歩いて、久谷ふれあい林へ上がっていきます。
久谷ふれあい林には、昭和天皇・香淳皇后両陛下がお手植えになった杉があります。
以前はかなり荒れていたのですが、全国植樹祭に向けてきれいに整備されていました。

久谷ふれあい林の上に位置するのが遠ヶ森です。
知らないと登山口がわかりにくいのですが、ここから登っていきます。
全国植樹祭で、遠ヶ森までの道も整備されたのかな？と思っていたのですが、完全なる藪のままでした。
前回の下見で、藪はわかっていましたので、藪対策をして登っていきます。

しばらくは道に沿って進んでいきます。
その後は、登山道はなくバリエーション登山です。
杉と藪の中を、尾根に向かってひたすら登っていきます。
下りはルートがわかりやすいのですが、登りは絶望と希望の繰り返しでルートを見つけて登っていきます。
予習不足で軽い気持ちで登りに来たので、想定外でした…
新しい登山靴のお試しも兼ねていたのですが、あっという間に土まみれに…（泣）

尾根の直前は岩場です。
岩場を登って、ようやく尾根に到着。
帰り道がわかるようにピンクテープを巻いておきます。

ここからは尾根沿いに、杉林の中をしばらく進んでいきます。
しばらく歩くと、急登がスタートです。
道はないのですが、とにかく上へ上へと登っていけば大丈夫です。
ここを登り切ると、遠ヶ森山頂に到着です。
山頂には祠があり、ご挨拶。
眺望はありません。

ちなみにYAMAPの山頂表示は違う場所です。
三角点の場所が少し離れたところにあり、ここがYAMAPの山頂として表示されています。
行ってみましょう！

まずは急な下りから。
せっかく登ったのに・・・と思いながら下っていきます。
下ると後は尾根道を数百メートルあるくと、森の中に三角点があります。
標識もなければ、眺望もありません。
三角点の標高は728mと少し低めです。
杉林の中で、静かに佇む三角点も趣がありますね。

往復で1時間半ぐらいのつもりで登り始めたのですが、結果的に2時間半もかかってしまいました。
尾根までは、藪の中の直登バリエーションルートであり、眺望もないため、あまりお薦めの山ではありません。
ただ「道は切り開いておきました」ので、ご興味のある方はぜひ登ってみてください。

Now that the 76th National Tree-Planting Festival Ehime Prefecture Event has wrapped up, I figured it was about time to head out, so I went for a hike up Togamori.

If you turn off National Route 33 onto National Route 440, you’ll find the entrance to the Kutani Fureai Forest.
First, I walked along the Okubo Forest Road to make my way up to the Hisaya Fureai Forest.
In the Hisaya Fureai Forest, there is a cedar tree that was personally planted by Their Majesties Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun.
It used to be quite overgrown, but it had been neatly maintained in preparation for the National Tree-Planting Festival.

Togamori is located above the Hisaya Fureai Forest.
The trailhead is hard to spot if you don’t know where it is, but this is where I started my climb.
I wondered if the path to Togamori had been cleared for the National Tree-Planting Festival, but it was still completely overgrown with brush.
I knew about the thick brush from my previous reconnaissance trip, so I prepared accordingly and began my ascent.

For a while, I followed the path.
After that, there was no trail, so I had to hike off-trail.
I climbed relentlessly through the cedars and thickets toward the ridge.
The descent is easy to follow, but the ascent was a cycle of despair and hope as I searched for the route.
I hadn’t prepared enough and came up here on a whim, so this was completely unexpected…
I was also testing out my new hiking boots, but they were covered in mud in no time…

Just before the ridge is a rocky section.
After climbing the rocks, I finally reached the ridge.
I tied some pink tape there so I’d know the way back.

From here, I continued along the ridge through the cedar forest for a while.
After walking for a bit, the steep climb began.
There’s no trail, but as long as you keep going up and up, you’ll be fine.
Once you reach the top of this section, you’ve arrived at the summit of Tōgamori.
There’s a small shrine at the summit, so I paid my respects.
There’s no view from the summit.

By the way, the summit marker on YAMAP is in a different spot.
The triangulation point is located a short distance away, and that’s what YAMAP lists as the summit.

First up is a steep descent.
I head down, thinking, “After all that climbing…”
Once you’re down, just walk a few hundred meters along the ridge trail, and you’ll find the triangulation point in the forest.
There are no signs, and there’s no view.
The triangulation point’s elevation is 728 meters, which is a bit low.
Standing quietly amidst the cedar forest, the triangulation point has a certain charm.

I started the hike expecting it to take about an hour and a half round-trip, but it ended up taking two and a half hours.
The route to the ridge is a direct ascent through thick brush, and since there are no views, I wouldn’t really recommend this mountain.
However, since I’ve “cleared a path,” please give it a try if you’re interested.
