要害山　北条バイパスのトンネルの上の山　葛籠屑城跡（愛媛県松山市）標高107m

本日はスクーター登山の日。
島々の山々を巡る予定ですが、その前に旧北条市の気になる山に登ってきました。
北条バイパスの松山側から1本目のトンネルの上の要害山です。
時間は午前5時40分。
南斜面側からだとわかりやすいのですが、果樹園の横を登らせていただくのも気が引けたので、農道ルートで登ってきました。

北条バイパスからは農道に入ることができず、一度、海側の旧道に降ります。
入り口から、まっすぐ進みます。
ため池の前をぐるっと回って進むと農道がなくなるので、そこが登山口です。

山頂まで歩く距離が200m程度だったので気を抜いていたのですが、朝から想像を絶する藪漕ぎ、枝払いです。
全身カッパ状態で良かった。
何度かくじけそうになったのですが、「あと10mだけ頑張ってみよう」の精神で前進。
なんとか果樹園の上に出るできました。
果樹園の柵の上側に沿って進み、最後は道なき直登です。

山頂には「葛籠屑城址」の石碑がありました。
「つづらくず城」と読むそうです。
北条の山々は全て河野氏関連、当時の勢力がわかりますね。

山頂はこれまでの苦難とは別物の広場です。
木々で眺望があまり見えないのが残念。

すがすがしい朝ですが、再び、藪漕ぎ、枝払いの道を通って戻るのです。

Today is scooter hiking day.
I plan to tour the mountains across the islands, but before that, I climbed a mountain in the former city of Hojo that had caught my interest.
It’s Mount Yōgai, located above the first tunnel on the Matsuyama side of the Hojo Bypass.
The time was 5:40 a.m.
It’s easy to find from the south-facing slope, but I felt a bit hesitant about climbing right past the orchard, so I took the farm road route instead.

You can’t access the farm road directly from the Hojo Bypass, so I had to descend to the old road on the ocean side first.
From the entrance, I went straight ahead.
After circling around the reservoir, the farm road ends—that’s the trailhead.

Since the distance to the summit was only about 200 meters, I let my guard down, but from the very start, I found myself bushwhacking and clearing branches beyond my wildest imagination.
I was glad I was fully covered in my rain gear.
I felt like giving up several times, but I pushed forward with the mindset of “Just 10 more meters.”
Somehow, I managed to emerge above the orchard.
I followed the top of the orchard fence and finished with a straight, pathless climb to the top.

At the summit, there was a stone monument marked “Kuzarakuzu Castle Ruins.”
Apparently, it’s read as “Tsuzarakuzu Castle.”
All the mountains in the Hōjō region are associated with the Kōno clan—it really gives you a sense of their power back then.

The summit is a wide open space, a world apart from the hardships I’d endured up to that point.
It’s a shame the trees block most of the view.

It’s a refreshing morning, but I have to head back the same way—through the thickets and fending off branches once again.
