奈良山等妙寺史跡公園 展望場と史跡と歴史交流館（愛媛県北宇和郡鬼北町）
郭公岳から鹿のコルへは戻らず、北東側に下りていきます。
ザレ場のような林道をまずはひたすら下りていきます。
1時間ほど降りると、きれいな林道に出ます。
ここからまた1時間ほど黙々と下りていきます。
山の新緑がきれいですが、ひたすら退屈な時間でもありました。
やっぱり林道ではなく山道を歩く方が楽しいですね。
2時間ほど歩くと、史跡 等妙寺旧境内 展望場の案内標識があり、そちらに進みます。
少し進むと展望場が見えてきます。
ここが奈良山等妙寺史跡公園の最上部。
鬼北の街を一望することができる場所です。
眼下に広がるのが、等妙寺旧境内の広大な敷地です。
等妙寺は、天台宗総本山の比叡山で仏道を学んだ理玉和尚によって創設されました。
このあたりの歴史は、下りたところにある奈良山等妙寺歴史交流館で詳しく学べます。
こちらで頂いた、まんが解説本がとてもわかりやすかったので、訪問した際にはぜひ！

Instead of returning to Shika-no-Koru from Kakkou-dake, we head down the northeastern slope.
We start by walking steadily down a forest road that resembles a gravel slope.
After about an hour of descending, we come out onto a well-maintained forest road.
From here, we walk silently downhill for another hour or so.
The fresh greenery of the mountains was beautiful, but it was also a rather tedious stretch.
After all, walking on mountain trails is more fun than walking on forest roads.
After walking for about two hours, I came across a sign pointing to the “Tōmyō-ji Historic Site: Former Temple Grounds Viewpoint,” so I headed that way.
After walking a short distance, the viewpoint came into view.
This is the highest point of the Nara-yama Tōmyō-ji Historic Site Park.
It’s a spot where you can take in a panoramic view of the town of Onikita.
Spreading out below is the vast grounds of the former Tōmyō-ji temple.
Tomyō-ji was founded by Priest Rigyoku, who studied Buddhism at Mount Hiei, the head temple of the Tendai sect.
You can learn more about the history of this area at the Narayama Tomyō-ji History Exchange Center, located down the hill.
The illustrated guidebook I picked up there was very easy to understand, so I highly recommend checking it out if you visit!
