二ノ森から堂ヶ森へ。
いよいよ本日の最終地点へ向かいます。

二ノ森から下り、まずは鞍瀬ノ頭をトラバース。
ちょっと残念ではあるのですが、鞍瀬ノ頭を経由すると20分ほどはロストしてしまいます。
下山スケジュールのためには仕方がありません。
とはいうものの、鞍瀬ノ頭のトラバース道もなかなか楽しいですよね。
南側の笹原斜面の奥に、五代ヶ森に続く美しい稜線を眺めることができます。
この道も歩いてみたいのですが、藪漕ぎ＋長時間ということで、なかなかの覚悟が必要みたいです。

鞍瀬ノ頭を過ぎ、五代の分れから堂ヶ森方面へ。
ここからは一面の笹原の下りです。
なだらかに見えるのですが、上りはかなりキツイですよね。

この辺りからガスに飲み込まれます。
ガスの中の笹原、美しさと非現実感で、どこにいるのか、夢か現か幻か、わからなくなる感覚です。
時間や距離がわからないまま笹原を下ると、気が付けば森に入ります。
ここから堂ヶ森への上り返しです。

ガスを抜け、堂ヶ森へ登っていきます。
反射板も見えます。
こちらもガスは大丈夫なようです。

歩いてきた鞍瀬ノ頭への道、この景色が美しいのですが、半分ガスで隠れています。
ちょっと残念ですが、これもまた良しですね。

尾根に上がって反射板へ。
出発から7時間半、本日の最終地点、堂ヶ森に到着です。
風がとても気持ちいい！
眼下には面河ダムも見えました。

さて、下山です。
本日は、梅ヶ市へ下りていきます。

梅ヶ市ルートは保井野ルートより楽と聞いていたのですが、道が細くて単調なので、かなり長く感じました。
私は変化がある保井野ルートの方が向いているのかもしれません。

From Nino-mori to Dōga-mori.
We’re finally heading to today’s final destination.

We descend from Nino-mori and first traverse Kurase-no-Kashira.
It’s a bit of a shame, but going via Kurase-no-aKashira would set us back about 20 minutes.
There’s no helping it, given our descent schedule.
That said, the traverse trail at Kurase-no-atama is actually quite enjoyable.
Deep within the bamboo grass slope on the south side, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful ridgeline leading to Godai-ga-mori.
I’d love to hike that trail too, but with all the bushwhacking and the long duration involved, it seems to require quite a bit of determination.

Past Kurase-no-Kashira, we head toward Dōga-mori from the Godai fork.
From here on, it’s a descent through a vast expanse of bamboo grass.
It looks gentle, but the climb up here was pretty tough, wasn’t it?

Around this point, we’re swallowed up by the fog.
The bamboo grass field shrouded in fog—with its beauty and surreal atmosphere—gives you the sensation of not knowing where you are, or whether you’re in a dream, reality, or a mirage.
Descending through the bamboo grass field without any sense of time or distance, I find myself entering the forest before I realize it.
From here, it’s back up the slope toward Dōga-mori.

We break through the fog and begin climbing toward Dōga-mori.
I can see the reflector as well.
The fog doesn’t seem to be a problem here either.

The trail I walked along to Kurase-no-Kashira—the view is beautiful, but it’s half-hidden by the fog.
It’s a bit of a shame, but that has its own charms too.

I climb up to the ridge and head toward the reflector.
Seven and a half hours after setting out, I arrive at today’s final destination: Dōga-mori.
The wind feels so refreshing!
I could also see the Omogo Dam below.

Now, it’s time to head down.
Today, we’re descending to Umegaichi.

I’d heard that the Umegaichi route was easier than the Hoino route, but the path was narrow and monotonous, so it felt quite long.
Perhaps the more varied Hoino route suits me better.
