白滝山 龍泉寺と山頂の八畳岩に彫られた磨崖仏（広島県三原市・広島県竹原市）標高350m
黒滝山から白滝山へ。
黒滝山は独立峰のため、まずはいったん下山。
山頂から青空の下の白滝山まで見えます。
標高がもったいないですが、どんどん下りて、白滝山の登山口へ。
この登山口からは、黒滝山まで0.8km、白滝山まで1.0kmとほぼ同じ距離。
登山口から白滝山山頂までは標高差が170m程度です。
まずは、展望台を目指して登っていきます。
道はよく整備されて歩きやすいです。
展望台からの眺めも良いですね。
ここから山頂の岩場と、梵鐘が見えます。
少し歩くと龍泉寺に到着。
トイレ休憩をして、有名な磨崖仏を見に登っていきます。
白滝山の山頂は巨大な花崗岩で、八畳岩と呼ばれているそうです。
この壁面に、掘られている仏像群を磨崖仏といって、南側の壁面には釈迦三尊像が、北側の壁面には十六善神像が掘られています。
豊作と平安を願って、約400年前の江戸時代初期に掘られたそうです。
麿崖仏を回り込むと、白滝山の山頂です。
梵鐘と、火伏せの神として「秋葉三尺坊大権現」が祀られた祠がありました。
ここでお弁当タイム。
瀬戸内の風景、竹原市・三原市の山々の風景を楽しみながら、おにぎりを食べました。
標高400～500mの山々の連なりって、四国にはないので新鮮でした。
どこも眺望が良いのですが、磨崖仏の上の岩場が特に良いのでお薦めです！

From Kurotaki Mountain to Shirataki Mountain.
Since Kurotaki Mountain is an isolated peak, we first descend.
From the summit, you can see Shirataki Mountain beneath the blue sky.
Though it’s a shame to lose elevation, we steadily descend to the trailhead for Shirataki Mountain.
From this trailhead, it’s about 0.8km to Mt. Kurotaki and 1.0km to Mt. Shirataki—nearly the same distance.
The elevation gain from the trailhead to Mt. Shirataki’s summit is roughly 170m.
First, we climb towards the observation deck.
The path is well-maintained and easy to walk.
The view from the observation deck is also nice.
From here, you can see the rocky summit area and the temple bell.
After a short walk, we arrive at Ryusenji Temple.
After a restroom break, we climb to see the famous rock-carved Buddha statues.
The summit of Shiratakiyama is a massive granite rock formation known as the Hachijō Rock.
The Buddha statues carved into this rock face are called rock-carved Buddha statues. The south face features a Shaka Sanzon (Buddha and two attendants), while the north face has sixteen guardian deities.
They were carved around 400 years ago, during the early Edo period, to pray for bountiful harvests and peace.
Circling around the rock-carved Buddha statues brings you to the summit of Mt. Shirataki.
There was a temple bell and a shrine dedicated to “Akiba Sanshyakubo Daigongen,” the god of fire prevention.
Lunch time here.
We ate rice balls while enjoying the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains of Takehara City and Mihara City.
The range of mountains stretching 400-500m in elevation felt fresh and new to us, as this landscape isn’t found in Shikoku.
While the views are excellent everywhere, the rocky area above the rock-carved Buddha statues is especially recommended!
