えんとつ山　旧山根製錬所の歴史ある煉瓦の煙突（愛媛県新居浜市）標高127m

少し時間が取れたので、えんとつ山から種子川山まで縦走してきました。

西赤石山に登った際に、見えた煉瓦の煙突。
行ってみたかったのですよね。

新居浜IC近くの山根公園の駐車場に車を停めて、登山口を探します。
グランドの東側を抜けると、上に登る階段があります。
えんとつ山の案内標識もありました。
階段を登って、東屋の手前から山に入っていきます。
ジグザグの道を登って、まずは尾根へ。
そこから右手に進んでいきます。
（左手は犬返の方へ）
鳥居を裏側からくぐって進んでいくと、高さ約20mの煉瓦の煙突が見えてきました。
道が2方向に分かれますが、どちらから進んでも同じ場所につきます。

旧山根製錬所の煙突は、2009年に国の登録有形文化財に登録されているそうです。
煙突前は広場として整備されており、新居浜の街並みを一望することができます。

当時はこの場所が生子山（標高144.7m）で、えんとつ山の愛称で親しまれていたとのこと。
この後に登る生子山城址や、さらに上に生子山（標高300.5m）があり、少しややこしいのですね（汗）

旧山根製錬所は、官営八幡製鉄所の7年前に操業したそうで、歴史を感じることができる良い場所でした。

I had a little free time, so I did a traverse hike from Mount Entotsu to Mount Tanegawayama.

That brick chimney I saw when climbing Mount Nishi-Akaishi.
I’d been wanting to go check it out.

I parked at Yamane Park near Niihama IC and looked for the trailhead.
Passing east of the field, there are stairs leading up.
There was also a sign for Mount Entotsu.
Climbing the stairs, I entered the mountain just before the gazebo.
Following the zigzag path up, I first reached the ridge.
From there, I proceeded to the right.
(Left leads toward Inugoe)
Passing behind a torii gate, a brick chimney about 20m tall came into view.
The path splits into two directions, but both lead to the same spot.

The chimney of the former Yamane Smelter was registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2009.
The area in front of the chimney is maintained as an open plaza, offering a panoramic view of Niihama’s cityscape.

Back then, this spot was Mount Syouji (elevation 144.7m), affectionately known as “Chimney Mountain.”
This gets a bit confusing because the Syouji Castle Ruins we’ll climb later, and the higher Mount Syouji (elevation 300.5m), are also nearby.

The former Yamane Smelter apparently began operations seven years before the government-run Yawata Ironworks. It was a great place to feel the weight of history.
