犬返 ここから先は犬も引き返す岸壁の難所（愛媛県新居浜市）標高579m
生子山から犬返へ。
結論から言うと、標高差300m弱で1時間程度だからとちょっと舐めておりました…
なかなか歩きごたえのある登道でした。
稜線ということもあり、前半は気持ちのよい景色を見ながら楽しくあるけます。
ここから急なピークをいくつか越えていきます。
登り始めにトラバース道のような横道があるのですが、全て違いますので、まっすぐ登りましょう。
道はしっかりしていて、岩とガレが組み合わさったような道です。
登りではわかりにくいのですが、下りではもう一つ木々の間のふかふかの道もあります。
足の負担を考えると、帰りはふかふかの道がお薦めです。
疲れすぎて、あまり写真を撮っていなかったのですが、木々の間を急登→尾根道 を繰り返す感じです。
最後の登りに入っていきます。
道が分岐していますが、迷わず上の道に進んでください。
最後の鉄塔を通過し、種子川林道を登っていきます。
最後に平坦になった道を歩くと、犬返し頂上の標識がありました。
ここがYAMAPの山頂です。
さらに奥に進むと、ベンチと犬返の標識がありました。
天候が悪かったのですが、雲の先に西赤石山を眺めることができます。
ここでお昼休憩、おにぎりが美味しかったです！
さて、ここに来るとわかるのですが、このさきは岸壁となっております。
この崖は、犬さえも引き返すということで「犬返」
犬返の岩壁については、次の種子川山に書きますね。
なかなかワイルドに楽しめます！

From Mt.Syouji to Inugaeshi.
To cut to the chase, I underestimated it a bit, thinking it was only about 300m elevation gain and an hour or so…
It turned out to be quite a challenging climb.
Being along the ridge, the first half offers pleasant views and is enjoyable walking.
From here, you cross several steep peaks.
At the start of the climb, there are side paths that look like traverse routes, but they’re all wrong, so just keep climbing straight up.
The trail is well-defined, a mix of rock and scree.
It’s hard to tell on the way up, but on the descent, there’s also a softer, more cushioned path through the trees.
Considering the strain on your feet, the cushioned path is recommended for the return trip.
I was too exhausted to take many photos, but it felt like repeating steep climbs through the trees → ridge path.
We enter the final ascent.
The trail forks, but proceed without hesitation on the upper path.
Pass the final transmission tower and ascend the Tanegawa Forest Road.
After walking the final flat section, you’ll find the Inugaeshi Summit sign.
This is the YAMAP summit point.
Continuing further in, there’s a bench and another Inugaeshi sign.
Despite the poor weather, you can glimpse Nishiakaishi Mountain beyond the clouds.
We took our lunch break here—the rice balls were delicious!
Now, once you reach this point, you’ll see the path ahead becomes a sheer cliff face.
This cliff is called “Inugawashi” (Dog Return) because even dogs turn back here.
I’ll write about the Inugawashi rock face in my next post about Mt. Tanegawa.
